Search of the database (registration is not required)

Here you can choose scientific publications related to various asymmetries according to several parameters - among taxa (biological organisms), in organs and systems, in various aspects. You can also search by publication date, author's last name, or words in the title of the work.

Adding to the database (after registration)

To be part of this project, a scientific publication must be analyzed for relevance and summarized in your own words. In addition to the author of the project, this can be done by anyone interested in this topic.

Asymmetry (laterality) in biology and medicine

This is an interdisciplinary non-commercial open project for generalizing information on right-left asymmetries in living nature.
The asymmetry.bio project is an attempt to create a large-scale and dynamic scientific review with references to printed scientific works and an abbreviated retelling of their content. Due to the large number of works in the selected field, which are difficult to find, and with the aim of quickly including new publications, the possibility of replenishing the review has been created for everyone. So, this is a collective project.
The goal of the project is to collect in one place and make available for analysis and comparison all basic knowledge about lateral and spiral asymmetries of all living organisms, including humans. The main principle of selecting works for inclusion in this review is the principle of distinction between the right side and the left side according to a certain criterion, which is of a population nature. Therefore, we will be glad for works where morphological, functional, and biochemical differences between the right and left sides are found, or a different frequency of paired organ diseases. Works on the mechanisms of formation of such asymmetries and their biological role are also welcome. Fluctuating asymmetry and antisymmetry (equal ratio in the population of right and left types) are not considered here.
In those areas of the given topic where there is a large number of publications, we limit ourselves to only the most important works and prioritize reviews and meta-analyses.
